Roaring business by parallel Kesco

KANPUR: Do not bother for erratic power supply! Get a new power connection by paying Rs 50 to a group of influential persons running a parallel Kesco in the city. They can ensure smooth supply even during rostering.
While large Kanpur areas are experiencing acute power shortage, hundreds of people, residing in Babupurwa, Chamanganj, Beconganj, Collie Bazar, Anwarganj, Dalel Purwa and Talaqmahal are getting smooth supply.They have been given power connection by the group members who care a fig for Kesco.
The group has laid electricity cables in narrow streets of these localities. They provide regular power supply to their clients provided there is electricity in any part of the city. They have also taken illegal connections from the VIP areas and are openly contacting residents urging them to take power connections from them. Nobody refuses their offer as they immediately snap his legal connection and threaten him with dire consequences. Their charges are nominal. At Rs 50, one can easily run two tubelights and two fans from the electricity supplied by them. Rs 150 is charged from those who want to run television sets, refrigerators and jet pumps. But if you have no jet pump then you can take connection in just Rs 100. “I have applied to Kesco for a new connection several months back. Recently, Kesco officials came to my house and gave the power connection from a nearby electric pole. However, next morning somebody snapped the connection,� said a resident of Babupurwa. He pointed out that most of the gangmen ,who are running the parallel Kesco with impunity,were hardcore criminals. They ensure that their clients get regular supply round-the-clock.
When contacted, Kesco officials denied having knowledge of any group providing illegal connections to local people.
